The Brooklyn Cocktail

I took the time this summer to tour around BC. As much as I was soaking in the sun and sea, I was also indulging in the cherries! BC has amazing fruit and when in season, the cherries are simply incredible. I pick boxes of them and haul them back to Alberta to create everything from pies, to jams.

That being said, soaking cherries in your spirit of choice creates a wonderful cocktail garnish sure to please. I use a quality bourbon and in the case of this cocktail a maple flavoured Knob Creek was my spirit of choice.

The Brooklyn Cocktail is a refreshing yet earthy treat for a summer evening by the fire. It combines bourbon, vermouth, maraschino liqueur and bitters to create a subtle cocktail enjoyed by most bourbon fans. Originally made with Rye Whiskey and Amerpicon in 1908, I have substituted maple bourbon and Angostura Bitters in my version. Amerpicon is very hard to find and an easy replacement is the bitters. Use your homemade soaked cherries a boozy garnish and voila…perfection in a coupe.
