BBQ Grilled Oysters

BBQ Oysters

Not everyone loves raw oysters. This is shocking news to us Islanders, but it is true. My daughter is one of these anti-raw folks. So I was hunting for a way to make her indulge in the oyster love the rest of our family has and stumbled upon this recipe for BBQ Grilled Oysters.

Placing these oysters on the BBQ with a little creole sauce, cheese, and bread crumbs creates an amazing appetizer. My daughter gobbled these up as did the rest of the family. Now, we double up on our Island Oyster order each summer. I have a feeling you may as well.

Serves: 4 Prep Time: Cooking Time:

Ingredients

    1. 12 Oysters in their shell
    2. 1/4 unsalted melted butter
    3. 1 clove of garlic minced
    4. 1 tsp of creole spice
    5. 1 tsp fresh chives minced
    6. 3 tbsp of bread crumbs
    7. 3 tbsp of freshly grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Scrub your oysters with a potato brush to remove all of the sand and debris from the outer shell.
  2. Place your BBQ on high heat.
  3. Open your oysters and remove the top half of the shell. Using your oyster knife, dislodge the oyster from the bottom of the shell but leave the oyster in the shell. Do this for all 12 oysters.
  4. Place the oysters with their shell on a rimmed BBQ Pan.
  5. Combine the melted butter, garlic, and creole spice and then place 1/2 tsp in each oyster shell.
  6. Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the oyster in a little pile on top of the oyster meat.
  7. Evenly distribute the parmesan cheese on top of each oyster.
  8. Bake with the lid closed for about 7-10 minutes watching closely. They should be browned and bubbling.
  9. Remove from BBQ and serve in their shells.
