Blackberry & Plum Galette

Plum blackberry galette

For a quick and easy winter dessert, this galette is perfect. Housing the flavours of red plums, ginger, blackberry, and lime. It is a great dessert for kids to make.

Ingredients

    • pie crust for the bottom of one 9" pie (homemade or store bought)
    • 4 large purple plums, pitted and sliced
    • 1/2 c whole blackberries
    • 1 tbsp minced candied ginger
    • 1/4 c brown sugar
    • 1/4 c granulated sugar
    • 2 tbsp melted butter
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 tbsp flour
    • 1 tsp lime juice
    • 1 tsp lime zest
    • 1 tbsp of cream
    • 1 tbsp ground almonds
    • 1 tsp raw sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F
  2. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
  3. Using homemade pie dough or a pre-made pie dough, roll out a 9″ circle and place on the parchment.
  4. Combine all of the ingredients stopping before cream. Dump the pie filling in the middle of the dough circle and spread leaving a 2.5″ border. Then fold the border edges over the filling creating an outer “crust”.
  5. Using a pastry brush, brush the crust with the cream being sure to lightly coat the entire pastry surface. Sprinkle the crust with the almonds and the sugar.
  6. Place the galette in fridge for 15 minutes to prevent spreading of the pastry dough.
  7. Place in the oven on the middle rack and cook for 30 – 35 minutes until pastry is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Remove from oven and allow it to cool for 20 minutes before serving.
  9. Serves 6

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipping cream, of swiss meringue.
